2.30 AT BATH

I put all I had on Birth of the Blues,
my wallet, my car keys, my suit, my shoes,
the food in my fridge, from my sideboard the booze,
the well-thumbed books I love to peruse,
a lock of my hair, my fingerprints’ clues,
the country weekends, the baas, the moos,
the dosh I’d saved to go on a cruise,
the loot put by for the birthday-dos,
the love letters (you know who’s)
only to see it lose.
