Blue

Blue

Blue like the sound of a saxophone
in the rain.
Blue like waving goodbye
to an aeroplane.
Blue like a sad, sad thought
trapped in the brain.
Blue like the last of the light
in a country lane.
Blue like a bruise on the skin,
a tender pain.
Blue like the faraway whistle
of a train.

Blue like shadows trapped
in a locked case.
Blue like the empty, endless miles
of space.
Blue like the vacant chair
that was your place.
Blue like loneliness,
its silent grace.
Blue like boredom,
its slow pace.
Blue like the light in the tears that fall
on your face.
