Motherless Child

MOTHERLESS CHILD

Sometimes I feel like a motherless child,
Sometimes I feel like a motherless child,
Sometimes I feel like a motherless child,
A long ways from home,
A long ways from home.

Sometimes I feel like I’m almost gone,
Sometimes I feel like I’m alost gone,
Sometimes I feel like I’m almost gone,
A long ways from home,
A long ways from home.

Sometimes I feel like a feather in the air,
Sometimes I feel like a feather in the air,
Sometimes I feel like a feather in the air,
As I spread my wings and I fly,
I spread my wings and I fly.

Classroom Tip: The Blues are a simple and powerful way of writing poetry. With this example as a model, get your pupils to write their own blues lyric- perhaps about something that makes them sad? Maybe you could then work with the music teacher to put the words to music?
